The Motorcycle Diaries
(20th Anniversary)

Film Screening

5 JUL 2024
Showroom Cinema, Sheffield

Showroom is delighted to collaborate with artist and curator Joseph Cutts to present a special 20th anniversary screening of The Motorcycle Diaries (Diarios de motocicleta).

On a break before his last semester of medical school, Ernesto "Che" Guevara (Gael García Bernal) travels with his friend Alberto Granado (Rodrigo De la Serna) from Argentina to Peru by motorcycle.

The two men soon witness the great disparities in South America, observing the exploitation of labour by wealthy industrialists. When they reach a leper colony in Peru, Ernesto's values soon change that he sides with the sufferers, forgetting his own comfort.

Showroom’s Sheffield Film Festival launches this August and features collaborations with local filmmakers, artists, and experts to showcase Sheffield’s unique and substantial contribution to UK film culture. The Motorcycle Diaries (20th Anniversary) is one of the lead-in events to the festival with a spotlight on local curatorial expertise from Joseph Cutts into Latin American cinema and artistic culture.
